THE LATE FORMER PRESIDENT, JERRY RAWLINGS 13th November 2020
On behalf of all the Directors and Advisors of the Commonwealth Boxing Council, I would like to convey our most sincere commiserations upon the passing of your former President, JERRY JOHN RAWLINGS.
It is not the usual policy to the CBC to comment upon the political history of any nation of our member federations, but many of our Directors will recall with affection their memorable visit to Accra in 2004 to celebrate both the 50th Anniversary of Independence of the State of Ghana, and on a more modest scale of importance, the same anniversary of the establishment of our original Championship Committee in 1954, the precursor of what became the current Council of which the Ghana Boxing Authority is a founding member.
It would seem clear to many of us from this distance that the late, revered Mr Rawlings was a principal architect of the current, modern State which has benefitted from democracy, stability and a comparative economic prosperity not enjoyed in so many other parts of our World and that was so evident during our memorable visit there.
Our sympathies are extended to you, your colleagues on the Ghana Boxing Authority and to the peoples of the great nation of Ghana upon their loss.
Regards
DEBBIE DOWN
Hon Secretary
