BULLETIN OCTOBER 2020

So this is my first official Bulletin as Honorary Secretary of Commonwealth Boxing Council, I only wish it could be being written under better circumstances across the globe. There is no doubt that 2020 has been a year like no other for all the wrong reasons. The CBC is issuing herewith an updated list of Champions and Contenders. Please be aware there are very few amendments since our last list in April of this year due to the minimal boxing activity across the Commonwealth. The CBC is currently making no orders at this time in respect of defences or deadlines.

I am very pleased to report that Commonwealth Championship Boxing has managed to stay active over this unprecedented period, I would like to offer thanks to BBB of C who have worked tirelessly to make boxing tournaments in the UK COVID-19 compliant, this has meant that Championship boxing has been able to continue albeit with restrictions, in all instances behind closed doors.  There will also be Commonwealth Championship activity sanctioned by the ANBF before this year draws to close in a Vacant Female Bantamweight Championship in Queensland Australia. I hope that it will not be too long before truly international boxing can resume again without restriction.

We were able to participate in a summer with Commonwealth Championships being broadcast from Matchroom Fightcamp, BT Studio, the beloved York Hall, and at Production Park in Yorkshire by Matchroom, Queensbury Promotions and MTK Global.  Sheer grit and determination shown by Promoters and their staff to stage shows in these unprecedented times really must be applauded. Credit must also be paid to the making of the Daniel Dubois v Joe Joyce for the British, Commonwealth & European Heavyweight Title, this contest was scheduled for April 2020 and after many setbacks due to the ongoing pandemic this will now be staged in November, I have read that both boxers have renegotiated terms to get this fight done, a true show of sportsmanship  – it’s a fight we all wait in anticipation to see.

NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER GIVE IN

The Commonwealth Boxing Council is proud to have been a part sponsor of the song, ‘NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER GIVE IN’ recorded at the famous Abbey Road Studios in North London where the Beatles recorded 50 years before, their album of the same name.

All of us in boxing in the UK, whether active inside or outside the ring, will want this Charity to succeed in its very worthwhile aims.

A film of both the song and the recording at the Studio can be viewed on YouTube at https://youtu.be/WLxlSXTICTo and is available for downloading on iTunes at https://music.apple.com/gb/album/never-give-up-never-give-in-single/1534129559

VIRTUAL AGM

The Commonwealth Boxing Council held their first ever virtual AGM in August this year, of course we all prefer to be around a table for an AGM but as this clearly was not going to be possible this year we used the services of ZOOM.  It was well attended and worked very well and we are now looking into the possibility of holding regular catch up meetings throughout the year using this platform.
