COMMONWEALTH BOXING COUNCIL BULLETIN 16th December 2016
Last week the CBC held it’s AGM at the Commonwealth Secretariat, Marlborough House in London’s Pall Mall.
Among the main matters agreed were as follows and as attached :-
ELECTION OF NEW PRESIDENT
DR CALVIN INALSINGH of Trinidad and Tobago was elected as the new President of the CBC, to serve for years 2017 and 2018 following the completion of his 2 year period of service by FRANK HADLEY of Australia. Dr Inalsingh has previously served as President in 2007/8.
PHILIP BROOK SMITH QC of the United Kingdom was re-elected as Chairman, his position being subject to re-election every 4 years.
MANDATORY DEFENCES
A list of current Champions, contenders and defence obligations is circulated as attached but in particular the CBC has ordered the following mandatory defence obligations :-
Welterweight
KRIS GEORGE (Champion, Australia) to defend against LARRY EKUNDAYO (Nigeria) by 30th June 2017.
Superfeatherweight
LIAM WALSH (Champion, England) to defend against ANDY TOWNEND (England) by 31st March 2017.
The Champion is on course for a World Title opportunity and is not expected to defend, but as he has not vacated, the CBC has re-instated Townend as mandatory challenger.
Superbantamweight
GAMAL YAFAI (Champion, England) to defend against EMMANUEL QUARTEY (Ghana) by 28th February 2017.
This match, postponed as a result of injury to the Champion is expected to take place by this deadline, promoted by Eddie Hearn who won the right to promote via purse bid.
