CBC NEW WEBSITE

The Commonwealth Boxing Council now has a new website, the address is www.commbc.com.

Visit the website for all the latest info about Commonwealth Championship Boxing such as current champions, latest news and results, you can also read a wealth of useful information such as CBC History and Rules.

There will be further changes, additions and improvements over the spring period so do keep logging in to see what is new.

COMMONWEALTH DAY CELEBRATION

The Chairman of the CBC, PHILIP BROOK SMITH QC, has been invited to attend the Commonwealth Day Reception taking place at the headquarters of the Commonwealth Secretariat at Marlborough House in London’s Pall Mall, on Monday, March 13th.

The reception is being hosted by Commonwealth Secretary General, Baroness Patricia Scotland and will be attended by HRH Prince Charles, Prince of Wales.

Earlier that day, the Hon Secretary will be attending a service at Westminster Abbey in the presence of HM Queen Elizabeth ll and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh.

Both the Hon Secretary and the Assistant Secretary, Mrs Debbie Down, will be attending a reception at the Royal Overseas League in London’s St James later in the early evening.

VACANT TITLES

At SUPERFEATHERWEIGHT, LIAM WALSH (England) has confirmed he has vacated the Championship as he will not be able to meet his CBC mandatory defence obligation whilst pursuing an IBF World Title opportunity.

Promoter Stefy Bull has matched mandatory contender ANDY TOWNEND

(England) against JON KAY (England) for the vacant Title on a date to be confirmed in April

At HEAVYWEIGHT, SUPERMIDDLEWEIGHT and MIDDLEWEIGHT vacant Title matches have been confirmed (see FORTHCOMING CHAMPIONSHIPS).

For failure to defend as ordered, both ISAAC LOWE (England) at FEATHERWEIGHT and GAMAL YAFAI (England) at SUPERBANTAMWEIGHT have lost their Titles which have now been declared vacant. Mandatory contender EMMANUEL QUARTEY (Ghana) may make a match against any contender approved by the CBC for the Superbantamweight Championship whilst at Featherweight, with no ordered mandatory contender, the CBC will approve the first acceptable match applied for by any promoter.

KRIS GEORGE (Champion, Australia) v LARRY EKUNDAYO (Nigeria) Purse bids were opened by the CBC Chairman at his Chambers at Fountain Court, The Temple, London at 12 00 midday on Monday 20th February. The winning bid was submitted by Frank Warren (see FORTHCOMING CHAMPIONSHIPS)
