The Commonwealth Boxing Council is pleased to confirm that Tiah-Mai Ayton and Ellie Hellewell will contest the vacant Commonwealth Featherweight Championship on Saturday 22 August at the iconic York Hall, London.
The championship contest brings together two of the brightest names in British women’s boxing, with both fighters presented with the opportunity to capture their first Commonwealth title.
Ayton enters the bout unbeaten after making an outstanding start to her professional career. The highly regarded prospect enjoyed an accomplished amateur career before transitioning to the professional ranks, where she has quickly established herself as one of the sport’s most exciting young talents. Her most recent victory came via a fourth-round stoppage of the experienced Stevi Levy, earning her the first championship opportunity of her career.
Standing opposite her will be the experienced Ellie Hellewell, who brings a record of 7-1-1 and valuable championship experience into the contest. Hellewell’s only professional defeat came against former British and Commonwealth champion Tysie Gallagher, and she has already proven her ability over the championship distance, making her a formidable opponent for the unbeaten Ayton.
With the Commonwealth Featherweight Championship vacant, both women have the opportunity to etch their names into the title’s proud history. The Commonwealth Championship has long served as a proving ground for elite talent, with many former champions progressing to British, European and world honours.
The bout forms part of a strong card at York Hall and will be broadcast live on DAZN, giving both athletes the chance to showcase their talents on a global stage.
The Commonwealth Boxing Council looks forward to crowning a new Featherweight Champion and wishes both competitors the very best ahead of what promises to be an outstanding championship contest.
